WHAT IS SOL ?

SOL is NVIDIA’s real-time cinematic project. Divided into 3 chapters. To read more about Part 1, about it please visit here

THE PROJECT

Just like SOL Part 1, the entire cinematic we created runs on Unreal 4 with real-time ray tracing.
The story is a variation of SOL1, it starts off the same way, but has a different finale. In this version, after the hero lands, he stands up and the cinematic transitions into a demo, allowing the presenter to interact with materials and time of day, while changing the camera.
The idea of the character getting stuck into the ground and struggling to get out was ideated and executed by the team’s lead animator Brian Robison.

It was done on purpose to allow NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen, to present this demo live on stage during his CES 2019 Keynote.

This above is the concept art done for the landing sequence

And above is the amazing landscape created by Jacob Norris for the final cinematic.
